I just wanted to give everyone a heads up about a community service opportunity coming up. The company I work for builds a habitat house each year. It’s our way to do community outreach in the Little Rock area. With 2BC’s history of building a habitat house in the parking lot I thought the REstore group would want to participate. I signed us up to work May 12th starting at 8am and ending around 1 or 2pm. (weather permitting.) We will need 10 to 15 volunteers to sign up. The start of the build begins this week so will be working on the early stages of the house. Let me know if you are willing to volunteer. Email me at . I will be sure to send out an email and make another post with more details. Volunteering for Habitat is definitely a great way to help out a family in need in the Little Rock area. The 2BC family has met some awesome people and made good connections though habitat. I would like to encourage REstore to get involved. Everyone is welcome so invite family and friends to join us.

Campfire means party at Mark Camp's house this Friday night! We will be having shrimp, sausage, potatoes, and corn. Yummy! Mark house has a great back deck and the weather is going to be perfect.

The throw down will begin at 5:30. Leave the kiddos at child care. It's available until 8:00 but you need to let Lani know so there are enough workers scheduled. Also bring as many people as possible. We're trying to see if we can fill Camp's house to capacity! This is the place all the hipsters go to karaoke and bust a move. Time to blow his roof off!

Good eats! Good Friends! Good time! Hope to see you there.

Christ has no body now on Earth but yours,

No hands but yours,

No feet but yours.

Yours are the eyes through which Christ's compassion

is to look out to the world.

Yours are the feet with which Christ

is to go about doing good.

Yours are the hands with which Christ

is to bless all people now.

-Teresa of Avila

When asked, "Will you look at the world with the eyes and compassion of Christ?" the answer is easy- of course! Compassion, for me, is the easy part. It's not difficult to look out and use my eyes to identify a person that needs some love, needs some compassion. The answer is more challenging when asked, "Will you be the hands and feet of Christ?" Hm... can I get back to you? Maybe later, maybe next time, maybe someone else? This passage has given me a new perspective on what Christ is asking us to do here on Earth.

I don't know if Jesus used his hands or presence to play BINGO, but Restore is going to Albert Pike TONIGHT from 6:30-8 pm for BINGO and ice cream with the residents there. Join us if you'd like!

This is a really interesting potential documentary (funds are being raised on kickstarter) about the relationship between church leadership, church people and sex. I definitely have my fingers crossed that the funding comes through it seems like it could be a good addition to the conversation.

From the Kickstarter site----

This is the movie I wish I had watched when I was in my early teens. It's the film I wish existed when I talked to my friends struggling with the issue in high school and college. And it's the film I hope will effect generations of Christians in future decades.” (Patrick, featured in the film)

"I have struggled with shame and insecurity in my sexuality, and my secret longings to seduce and to be wanted. That’s not what a good Christian girl is supposed to think about…” (Rachel, via The American Jesus blog)

“I initially thought I was going to wait until marriage… but after [having sex] in my early 20's I found myself having to come to terms with how I feel about myself, if this means I should continue to wait and whether I ‘ruined everything’ so to speak.” (Mr. M, via email)

“Abstaining was tough during my teens, but it became torture throughout my twenties. Now that I'm in my thirties and most of my ‘True Love Waits’ peers are celebrating ten or more years of sex and marriage… I'm left feeling like I was entirely ripped off.” (Kristine, via email)

Earlier this week, someone sent me an article from AARP titled the "Top 5 Regrets of the Dying." I immediately thought, "whaaaaat?" And before you say the same thing, let me encourage you to take 2 minutes to read it, as well. The author is a woman who worked in end-of-life care, spending her time with those who were enduring their last moments in their earthly bodies. As we all know and have experienced in some form during our lives, facing major life issues gives us unparalled clarity about what is and isn't important in our lives. When we slow down and actually think about the journeys we're walking, the people we care about, the boxes we live in - it makes some of it seem silly and some incredibly cherished. And that goes for our physical lives as well as our spiritual and emotional well being. We have such little time here - why settle for mediocrity in areas of our social lives, our relationship with God, relationships with family/friends, our emotional health, etc?

I've gained some wisdom from the regrets of the dying. Such simple ideas, but those that seem to get lost in the shuffle of everyday life. I hope you, too, will take a look at these thoughts and enjoy the wisdom that we've been given!

You can read the article here:
