Thank You!
Last night the REstore group went to Our House shelter and decorated for Christmas. There was an amazing turnout. I just wanted to thank everyone who took the time to come out or give supplies for this event. Also to the ones who helped with preparations. This year was the best year yet. We had more decorations in better condition and the younger ones made ornaments to put on the tree. Another thanks to the five guys it took to put the outdoor lit Christmas Trees into the ground. I think the residents enjoy the little extra Christmas cheer at their home. The children definitely did. I'm looking forward to next year.
Bowling next Thursday!
Check your calendars next week, and come join us next Thursday for a night of bowling and ice cream - complete with childcare! Here's what you need to know:
We'll meet up at 6 p.m. at Professor Bowl in LR next Thursday, June 16th. After bowling a few games, we'll move on to get some ice cream at Baskin Robbins down the street. Like I said earlier, childcare will be provided at Second Baptist Church, so drop the kids off to have some fun, and we'll wrap it all up by 8 p.m.
If you can come and/or you need childcare, please let me know by next Tuesday so we can have enough lanes reserved and workers ready. You can e-mail me at deannajones05@gmail.com to give me a head's up.
Come bring your friends, and beat the heat with us next week! Holler!
Garden’s Blooming!
Ok so not so much yet, but it's gonna happen soon.
There are plans in the works to develop an awesome (and small) garden on the lot at 8th and Scott.
One of the things that we as Americans are losing is the connection between the food we eat and where it comes from. I can't profess to be an authority on bridging the connection, but that's part of the reason I'm a part of the group that will be participating in the garden. We'll learn about strategies that come with growing certain foods, when they're in season, what are helpful and harmful fertilizers and insect deterrents.
Another cool part of the garden will be partnering with people in the community that we may not normally interact with. The garden will hopefully help us build relationships with each other.
We're going to use raised beds that look something like this...
We plan to build the garden and plant on April 23. Regular maintenance will happen through the summer and assigned to group participants.
If you want to participate, let me (Jesse) know and we'll get you in on it. We'll have a meeting to discuss the garden with the group on April 10. Attend if you can, but if you can't just let me know.
Holla!

Memphis in May & Riverfest
So in case you haven't noticed, it's really cool to bash local music festivals. The Beale Street Music Festival (Memphis in May) and Riverfest in Little Rock manage to bring B and C level talent each year as headlining acts. However these efforts are one of the better attempts in the area to bring a concentration of musical talent in at one time and place. So I (Jesse) support that effort. Anyway I just thought I'd post some info on the up coming events.
